The Ins and Outs of Interesting Research Papers
27
September
2008

Writing interesting research papers may seem like the hardest endeavor in the world, but it really is not that difficult at all.  Of course, you have to have some perspective.  When you are given a research paper as an assignment, it naturally seems far more difficult than it actually is, because you have your grade to worry about, you have to think about possible ideas, format of the paper,  being able to get it in on time, et cetera.  This can take up so much room in your mind that actually writing the paper almost becomes unimportant.  That is why planning ahead of time is such a great idea.  That does not mean you have to store up tons of ideas and start writing your papers even before they are do.  It just means that learning how to write a really interesting paper ahead of time can lessen the workload when you do have an assignment due. Note, that a custom term paper may also be a way out.

The first step towards learning to write interesting research papers does not involve writing itself.  Rather, it involves the types of research paper ideas you consider.  The key to writing interesting essays and research papers is choosing thought provoking topics.  Now, as we all know, the word “I” is generally not supposed to appear in academic writing, unless it happens to be a personal or narrative essay, a persuasive essay, et cetera.  However, you can still draw on your own experiences.  If you are given a paper to write in a political science class, for example, and once successfully ran for office in your high school government, you can draw on those experiences.

Interesting research papers can, do, and truthfully should spring what interests you the most – even if you are assigned a paper in a class you are only taking to fulfill a requirement.  Say, for example, you are taking an astronomy class.  You may not be particularly interested in astronomy itself, but perhaps you are interested in the atmosphere on the planet Venus – well, there you go, there is your topic.  There is also no denying the fact that sometimes the most interesting papers spring from controversial research paper topics.

After all, the whole point of research paper writing is not just to learn all you can about a particular subject.  You also want to draw your readers into the essays and research papers you write.  If your reader is not interested, even the most brilliant research will not matter.  However, if you can intrigue your reader, even if it is because you spark his or her ire because the reader has an opposite opinion from the one presented in your paper, you definitely have a winner.

Interesting research papers depend on good research paper topics.  Learning how to craft those beforehand can significantly help you when you get down to the actual research paper writing process.  When you also look into how to create a proper outline and how to manage your time, you may just find that when you do have a paper due, all you will have to do is pick a topic and look into it; getting your thoughts down on paper will take much less time once you know what is needed to write a truly interesting paper.

Let Descriptive Essay Prompts Make You a Better Writer

Descriptive essay prompts are utterly invaluable.  You cannot imagine how many areas of your life they can benefit.  It might seem silly to think that any essay writing prompts can have a positive advantage on your life as a whole, but believe it.  Every academic paper you will ever write, even if they are factual essays and research papers, needs to be descriptive.  All of them will have to pull your readers in and make them want to keep reading.  Whether you are a novelist, an essayist, a poet, or an academic, if no one wants to read what you write, then you are finished.  You can have the most brilliant thesis the world has ever seen, you can be proposing the most innovative and helpful research the world will ever know – but if your writing itself is dull, dry, and bland, no one is going to be interested.  After all the hard work that goes into our writing, no matter what kind it is, do we really want to risk letting it go unnoticed? Learn more about research paper format.

Before understanding the importance of descriptive essay prompts, we first need to understand the purpose of descriptive essays and research papers themselves.  At its core, a descriptive paper is the venue you use in order to create vibrant imagery, whether it is about a person, a place, or a thing.  As the writer, you will draw on all of your reader’s senses rather than just the visual.  The true purpose of a descriptive essay is to ultimately allow your reader to share in your own sensory experience as it applies to the subject.  Persuasive writing prompts are the tools used to show you exactly how you can do that.

The descriptive essay prompts you are given in grammar school, middle school, high school, et cetera, are designed to show you exactly what is needed in order to portray people, places, things, moments in time, and even theories with a sufficient amount of vivid detail to let the reader recreate the mental picture you had when you were writing about your subject.  Of course, you need to consider more than just the essay prompts you are given.  You also need to plan out your writing in order to write something truly descriptive.  For instance, you need to think about a moment that you would like to describe.  Specifically, you need to consider why that moment is so important to you, what you were doing, what was going out around you, and so on.  You even need to think about your location, the surroundings; the sights, sounds, tastes, smells and feelings occurring during that moment are extremely important.  Believe it or not, delving down this deeply can ultimately help you come up with terrific research paper topic ideas.  You will know exactly what elements are needed to pull your readers into your paper.

It really may be hard to believe, but descriptive essay prompts can inevitably help you when it comes to creating good research paper topics.  Truthfully, they can help you come up with great ideas for any number of academic papers.  Being able to discern exactly how to pique a reader’s interest is so valuable.  Learning how to be descriptive will help you spice up even the most factual paper. Ideas for an Interesting Civil War Research Paper
18
September
2008

When you are assigned to write a Civil War research paper, it presents you with a wonderful opportunity to craft an interesting, even fascinating paper.  History buffs know this already but it may be difficult to believe for those high school and college students who are only slogging through their American history classes because they are required.  Unless a student is taught by one of those rare, wonderful instructors who know how to make our nation’s history exactly what it really is – hundreds of years of intrigue, fighting, violence, triumphs, betrayals, tragedies, celebrations, and innovations – then the entire subject of history can often seem like one of the driest.  This is unfortunate, because in retrospect American history in general and the Civil War in particular are actually very fascinating subjects.

This may be extremely hard to believe, but really, just think about it.  The sagas that went on during the Civil War make today’s most melodramatic movies, television shows, and staged tragedies seem almost stale.  When you have the opportunity to write a Civil War research paper, you need to think about that.  There are an abundance of good research paper topics within the broader subject of the Civil War.  Honestly, really consider the possibilities – this was a war which pitted brothers against brothers.  Fathers were against sons, leaving mothers to choose between their husbands and their beloved children.  For you romantics out there, remember that lovers were set up against lovers as well – and many romances blossomed out of sheer desperation.

So, let’s talk about a few possible research paper ideas for a Civil War research paper.  To be sure, there are no shortage of them.  There are the events of the war themselves, so you could do research on the Emancipation Proclamation, or even the events and decisions which ultimately resulted in its being called the Civil War.  You could choose to research one or more of the many women who played an important part in the war; that and like minded ideas are ideal for those looking to put a bit of a feminist bent on their history research papers. Looking for information about sample term paper? Follow the link.

Always remember, as well, that the most interesting research papers are always going to be somewhat controversial.  Mind, this does not mean that you should be at all offensive.  It simply means that if you have a chance to tackle a topic which others may be wary of approaching, if you are comfortable with it and it is all right by your instructors, go for it.  In the case of the Civil War, this could involve choosing to research topics related to racism, which was of course central to every single part of the war; the same goes for the subject of slavery.  You could also look into acts of treason which took place during the war.  You could also research the subject of why, exactly, Union soldiers were called “Billy Yank” and Confederate soldiers were called “Johnny Reb.”

If all else fails, think about Gone with the Wind when you sit down to write your Civil War research paper.  It depicts the high drama of the South at the time, sure, but it has gotten a whole lot of people interested in the war to begin with.  Sometimes, the best way to find inspiration during the research paper writing process is to associate what we have to write about with something that interests us.  Ergo, someone writing a biology paper on diseases might draw on the fact that they like House or ER, or refer to any appropriate books they enjoy – simply because such associations remind us that we are interested in the subject at hand.  Even if it happens to be history. Think of ordering custom term papers online.

The Many Benefits of Writing Prompts

September
2008

Today we are going to discuss the benefits of writing prompts, namely by taking a look at several research paper examples.  Prompts are extremely beneficial in any number of ways.  When we reach a certain age, they may seem a little unnecessary.  After all, these are things that we have to deal with when we are in grammar school and middle school – and sometimes in high school as well.  We generally view them as tedious, but then, all school and homework assignments are rather tedious, aren’t they?

However, writing prompts are actually going to help you.  In fact, they are a tool used by your teachers, in order to groom your writing style.  You see, they teach you how to come up with thought provoking ideas on your own.  They also give you a chance to form your own style and tone as a writer.  Furthermore, they teach you quite a lot about form, structure, and format as well.  These lessons are invaluable, and trust in the fact that you will be very grateful for this knowledge when you get to college, where just about every other class seems like it is writing intensive.  It may be heard to believe, but these prompts are actually the foundation for the writing you will do later in your academic career – such as with essays and research papers.

Having said that, let’s take a look at a few sample writing prompts.  First off all, here are a few expository essay prompts, which will later be incredible invaluable.  After all, in most if not all academic writing, you are going to be asked for factually explain something.

Example 1: Write a clear how-to guide describing how to either: change a tire; train an athlete in the sport of your choice; or drive on dirt roads.

Example 2: Your class is making a time capsule.  It is going to be opened fifty years from now.  Choose some items that will tell people in the future about the year 2008.  Explain what you want to put in the capsule and why.

Example 3: Consider something you have made yourself, with your own two hands.  How did you make it?  Is there anything you would change?  Write a clear explanation so that someone else could easily build the same item.

Next, we are going to examine some persuasive essay prompts:

Example 1: Your teacher has decided to give your class three tests on the same day.  Write an essay persuading your teacher to give the tests over several days instead.  Explain why it is necessary.

Example 2: A new scientific study has found that students need to be in bed by 8:00pm every night.  They cannot watch TV, read, or even have the lights on past that hour.  Your parents are thinking about following this.  Persuade them into changing their minds.

Example 3: Your school/school board is thinking about implementing school uniforms.  Do you think this is a good idea?  Write an essay explaining your views.

Now, let’s look at some personal essay prompts:

Example 1: Many children have a problem with their parents’ rules.  Think about a rule you once had a problem with and write a personal essay explaining what happened when they enforced that rule, how you reacted, and why you did not like it.

Example 2: Write a personal essay describing a time in your life when you were very anxious.  Explain what made you feel nervous, how you reacted, and what ultimately happened.

Example 3: Write a personal essay wherein you describe your most memorable vacation.  Was it good or bad?  What happened during the vacation?  How did you react?

As you can see, although simplistic in nature, writing prompts can help you learn how to create your own topics and ideas.  Moreover, essay prompts show you exactly how to explain something to your reader, in order to get him or her interested in reading.  Aside of format and structure, that is the most important aspect of academic writing.

Writing a Research Paper Proposal
13
September
2008

Once you reach a certain point in your undergraduate studies, you can pretty much count on having to submit a research paper proposal for all the papers you write.  Your humble author will be perfectly honest with you – it is a tedious and seemingly pointless process.  It generally seems completely unnecessary at the time and it is only in retrospect that you will usually understand the importance of the proposal.  Hindsight may be twenty/twenty and all of that, but four years after graduating, this particular author still finds the whole process tedious.  But if you do not find yourselves with a very new, very inexperienced, but very pompous sociology/anthropology professor who does not know what she is doing, you guys should be fine!

Simply put, a research paper proposal is where you present the idea, issue, or research you want to pursue in your writing.  Furthermore, it will show your professor that you have actually taken the time to think about both the research paper writing process and the research process itself.  It will also show that you have already taken the time to gather some materials and sources.  It will also give you a chance to see which of the many research paper styles your professor wants you to use, and to make sure you understand the appropriate style before you actually write your paper.  This is more important than you may think because some of those inexperienced professors will give you a research paper example to follow but then pronounce it incorrect when you turn in your proposal.  If this happens to you, milk it for all you are worth!

So, clearly, you need to know how to cite research paper proposals as well.  Generally, you will do this in APA format, because most research based papers follow that format.  Following a research paper template can help you see what you are supposed to do.  To that end, let’s discuss the outline your research paper proposal should follow.  For starters, you need to state the question you intend to answer with your research.  You have to explain something, that is the whole point of research papers.  After that comes a brief literature review, wherein you will review any major and important works which are relevant to your research paper topic; furthermore, they need to be indicative of the topic in some way.  Third comes another statement explaining what your argument actually is, as well as a statement explaining how your argument will be different and innovative.  You see, the literature you use in your review should be relevant; however, you need to discuss something which has not already been proven or discussed to death.  Next comes an outline of your paper itself – introduction, body, conclusion, bibliography, et cetera.  Next comes the bibliography for the proposal. Learn where you can get sample papers.

By and large, a research paper proposal does not have to be long at all.  Generally, they are no longer than three or four pages.  However, the quality of the content needs to be high.  You need to explain yourself very well.  Again, a research paper template on a proposal can also come in handy here.

The Purpose of Personal Essay Prompts
10
September
2008

Your teachers and professors do not give you personal essay prompts because they are dying to read about how your first week of college is making you feel, why you want to major in a particular field, or what you hope to accomplish when you get older.  That is not to say that they will not be interested in why you ultimately tell them, though.  The point is, your instructors give you these essay prompts because they want to see your abilities and gauge how skill you are when it comes to focusing on a specific event or incident, no matter how meaningful or mundane it may be.  Moreover, more than anything, they want you to interest them, they want you to make them interested in your essay.  They want you to pull them into whatever you are describing.

Now then, there is actually a merciful aspect behind all the personal essay prompts your instructors assign when you have to write a personal paper.  Why?  Because writing about ourselves and our experiences can be some of the hardest things a writer ever does.  Think about all the writers who do not.  Journalists are staunch in their desire to write about other people, someone else’s experiences, the lives of others, et cetera.  Although fiction writers generally include a lot of ourselves in our work, most of us stick to characters rather than writing about caricatures of ourselves.  Professional essayists are another matter, as are writers of biographical non fiction, such as David Sadaris or even Anne Frank.

However, there will come a time in every student’s life when you have to write a personal, or narrative, essay.  For instance, did you know that college application essay prompts are considered personal essays?  With those types of essay prompts, your readers are also interested in your skills, your tone, your style, and how engaging it is.  It so happens that they are also interested in learning a bit about you as well.  That is why, so often, such topics deal with why you chose your particular major, that particular university, et cetera.

Not all personal essay topics will be so specific.  They can be general, even generic topics, such as “Describe a time in your life during which you were perfectly content.”  Some of you might consider personal essay prompts of that type quite boring – and, indeed, they certainly seem that way!  The trick – in truth, the entire underlying assignment – is to make it interesting by engaging your reader.  That is the key with all essays and research papers, no matter what their structure or purpose.  You have to draw in your reader, make he or she interested in what you are trying to say.

Personal essay prompts will be helpful that far down the line; they will help you with a number of different types of papers.  Personal essays themselves are the least of it.  Narrative essay prompts can also help you when it comes to writing such things as personal experience research papers.

The Aspects of an APA Style Research Paper
8
September
2008

The odds that you will have to write at least one APA style research paper during your academic career are quite high.  The APA format is one of most commonly used citation styles, right up there with MLA.  The APA acronym stands for the American Psychological Association.  As you might therefore imagine, the style is especially popular in psychology classes, along with sociology courses and anthropology courses, among a number of others.  A lot of it really depends on your professors’ individual preferences, but in general, you will find that the aforementioned classes rely on APA, while English and literature classes rely on MLA.

Usually, the separate research paper styles are divided by the category of classes.  So, the APA style research paper is most common in any classes – or with any papers – which involve research, especially of the scientific type.  This is because this particular format is very clean, concise, and understandable, which is vital when presenting any type of research.

For that reason, this type of research paper format is also very common in undergraduate classes.  Generally, the essays and research papers you write in high school are done in a basic MLA style.  So, once you get to college, you are not precisely accustomed to really intensive writing.  Writing an APA style research paper is a good place to start when you do get there, because it is so easy to understand. You should check some good research paper examples before starting to write.

For example, the format for APA essays and research papers, technically speaking, involves using double spacing and a 12 point font which is easy to read, such as Arial or Times New Roman.  The paper margins need to be one inch on all four sides.  You need to stay away from any first person speech – i.e., you really should not use “I,” “me,” “mine,” et cetera.  Abbreviations should be spelled out the first time you use them and you should not use contractions.  When writing numbers, you need to spell out numbers zero (0) to nine (9); when writing numbers 10 or more, you can use the numerals.  In APA research paper format, the title should be somewhere between ten to twelve words, and is used to summarize the primary idea of the paper.  The first two or three words of the title are used when numbering the pages as well; they go right before the page number in the upper right hand corner of all the pages.  To get a better idea, feel free to check out a research paper template or two which exhibits this particular format.

These are just a few rules used in an APA style research paper, but have no fear.  You will not be expected to know how to cite a research paper in this format with no foreknowledge.  Generally, your first year English professor will either require you to purchase a reference book containing information on all the main research paper styles, or else he or she will tell you where to get one.  If your professor does simply suggest that you buy such a book, definitely take him or her up on it.  You will be able to use it well into graduate school, and it will make it much easier for you to write any type of paper. The Benefits of College Application Essay Prompts
6
September
2008

A lot of students bemoan the fact that they have to study and practice with college application essay prompts.  That is a shame, because the essay part of your college application is one of the most important things on the whole form.  You have to have a good grade point average, of course.  Colleges look at your extra curricular activities, whether you are into sports, marching or concert band, the student council, or the Honor’s Society.  Any jobs or volunteer positions you have had are likewise important.  However, you will never write any essays and research papers as important as the essay you include on your college application.  It could mean the difference between getting accepted, getting put on a waiting list, or flat out getting rejected.  You could be neck and neck with another student for a position in the college, unbeknownst to either of you.  You could each have a solid 4.0 grade point average, you could each be the executive presidents of your class, you could have been in the same extra curricular activities.  Yet, if that student’s essay is better than yours, guess who is going to get picked?

The good news is, there are lots of college application essay prompts available in any number of places, which you can use to practice.  Quite likely, if you are in the eleventh or twelfth grade, your guidance counselor or the college adviser at your school may have already suggested this to you.  Take them up on it!  You might think these prompts are a drag, that between the high school research papers and essays you already have to write, you simply do not have time to waste on essay prompts that you will not even be graded on, but kids – get real!

College application essay prompts give you more than a grade – they can give you a future.  Between the two, which one is better, really?  Furthermore, these prompts can actually help you out during your college years.  In addition to actually getting you into college, they can actually help you come up with your own good research paper topics, on down the line.

In many ways, the essay on your college application is akin to the GED essay topics students are given when they go back to get their diplomas.  That is, they are just as important to what you are trying to attain.  For that matter, GED students can greatly benefit from practicing with essay prompts as well. Do you need a good sample term paper?

You can find college application essay prompts all over the Internet.  You should seriously think about getting a few of them and practicing.  You can even call the top colleges and universities of your choice, and see if they can give you some essay prompts that have been used on their applications in the past.  That way, you can practice writing essays that are small – for there is a limit – and concise, yet will tell the reader everything he or she needs to know to ensure your admittance into the college or university of your choice. Should You Buy a Research Paper?

September
2008

A lot of students want to know whether or not they should buy a research paper.  It comes up in every student’s life – the idea, the temptation, the weighing of the pros and cons.  It is completely natural.  Still, while the urge may be natural, you still need to know a few things about purchasing custom research papers.  You need to know several things about what to look for in a potential writing service as well.  After all, for as little time as you may have to write your research papers yourself, this is something that can have a huge affect on your grade for a particular class, as well as your grade point average in general.  That alone should tell you how important this choice is.

If you are looking to buy a research paper, naturally you are going to be looking for writing services, or even an independent source which might have a research paper for sale.  You cannot just get your paper from anywhere.  Heaven only knows what would happen in that case, but a bad grade would probably be the least of your worries.  Remember, colleges and universities take plagiarism very seriously.  Most of the professors in writing intensive classes now require their students to actually turn their research papers – and term papers, essays, explications, et cetera – in online, through one of the many sites designed to compare your paper to thousands of others, not to mention a ton of Internet resources, to make sure that there is absolutely no plagiarized material.

If you choose to buy a research paper from a source that is not reputable, respectable, or high quality source, you may just find yourself with a plagiarized paper.  Custom research papers can be a tricky business.  You have to make sure that they actually are custom, that the paper you order is written just for you.  It has to meet your qualifications, your needs; it has to follow the guidelines set by your profession and it has to be completely, 100 percent original. Get a sample research paper!

Furthermore, you need to make sure that any writing service you are considering provides interesting research papers .  That is, they have to be original and completely unique but the ideas have to be innovative as well.  If a service cannot promise unique research paper ideas, go on to the next one.  Trust, there are services like this out there, you may just have to search around a bit to find them.

When you want to buy a research paper, the key is looking for a good source – and like say, they are out there.  If you really do not have the time or the resources to write your paper on your own, then finding a research paper for sale may just be a viable option.  The choice is up to you.  You simply have to realize that the burden of finding a good writing service falls on your shoulders as well so you need to take all the time necessary to find a good one.

Using Persuasive Essay Prompts with Research Papers
3
September
2008

Persuasive essay prompts are actually devices which can help you in almost every facet of literature and writing.  Naturally, they can help you to craft better essays and research papers, as well as term papers, theses, research proposals, and dissertations.  They can also help you create solid yet interesting topics for your research papers et. al.  There is no disputing those facts.  However, they can also help in your personal writing.  After all, in writing a poem, a short story, a book, you do have to persuade your readers to go along with the tale, do you not?  Besides, personal writing does not always mean fiction; some of us may go on to write articles and essays in professional journals, to write anthologies, text books, examples of papers, et cetera.

Does it seem silly to think that persuasive essay prompts, those tools we are generally given in middle school and high school, to which we usually wave good bye as we move on to college?  Not at all!  We can never consider such writing aids silly.  They were invaluable in your early academic years and they are invaluable now, even if you are no longer in school.  Actually, using a prompt even when you have a case of writer’s block can help kick start your imagination, wake up your muse.  Besides, we know well that they help in later academic writing – just think about persuasive research papers!  Persuasive prompts are quite helpful in that area.  Being able to persuade your readers to see things from your point of view, to see the value of your research, et cetera, can ultimately be beneficial for both your grade point average and your future.

At its heart, research paper writing is no more difficult than the smaller essays and papers you write in middle school and high school – even grade school, when three pages seemed like a lot.  It is simply more detailed, it involves more work.  Still, by the same token, even the persuasive prompts you had as a younger student can, even now, be shifted and crafted into interesting research paper topics.  To demonstrate, take a look at the following sample persuasive essay prompts.

Sample 1: Your English teacher often plays classical music softly in the background while your class has free work time.  The music is not particularly popular with you and your classmates.  You would prefer to hear a different type of music.  Write a letter to your English teacher, persuading him or her to play that music when the class has independent time.

That could actual translate into persuasive research papers which look into the idea that playing classical music, especially Mozart, for a child will make it more intelligent – with the writers persuading the readers whether or not that is actually true.

Sample 2: Your family has just moved to the United States from Brazil, and you are the only person in the family who knows how to speak English.  Your parents do not feel the need to learn the language.  Write a letter to them describing the benefits of learning English.

Persuasive essay prompts like this could lead to a discussion on the small controversy surrounding the prevalence of the Spanish language within the United States at all.  Many people think other languages, on signs, in school, et cetera, are a matter of course, polite, respectful, and necessary.  Others … well, they do not.  The point is, you can easily see how prompts can translate into interesting research paper topics.  Likewise, they will be tremendously beneficial as you continue on through school, up to college and graduate school, where research paper writing will be a huge part of the curriculum.
