The Key to Writing the Best Hamlet Research Papers

Very rarely do you get to have a good time when writing a research paper.  However, you will have that opportunity when you have to write a Hamlet research paper.  Hamlet is one of Shakespeare’s most intriguing characters.  In fact, it is a lucky student indeed who gets the chance to write at least one Shakespeare research paper during the course of his or her academic career.

Now, naturally, English and literature majors will probably have a good time writing English research papers, regardless of the subject.  However, when Shakespeare is involved, any student can have a good time, as long as you allow yourself.  You can make that significantly easier by doing all that you can to pick an interesting topic about which you can have a good time writing.

Some possible research paper ideas for a Hamlet research paper include thinking about Aristotle, who stated that two of the most vital aspects of a good drama are probability and consistency. How do the characters in Hamlet conform to this idea – or do they at all? You can not only use both Aristotle and Shakespeare’s works in a paper focusing on this topic, but you can also compare Hamlet with other plays written during Shakespeare’s time and discuss how they do or do not conform to Aristotle’s theories on drama.

You could also look into the way Shakespeare uses classical allusions in his plays, and Hamlet in particular, of course. This would give you the opportunity to look at different plays and dramas from a variety of eras, perhaps to discover if such allusions are commonplace in most dramatic works.

If you would like to write a Hamlet research paper with a bit of a psychological bent, you can focus on Hamlet’s madness. Now, you might think that focusing on this would fall under the “unoriginal” category. However, while it was true that a lot of papers and essays focus on the Prince’s insanity, this is one of those cases when you have the opportunity to put a unique spin on a frequently researched topic. Now, most people want to know whether Hamlet was feigning his madness or if it was real. By researching today’s diagnosis of “madness,” you could develop a very thought provoking thesis about this topic.

As with the majority of Shakespeare’s works, there are literally hundreds of different topics around which you could base a well rounded, interesting, and intriguing Hamlet research paper. You just need to take the time to really study the nuances of the play and its characters, both the main protagonists and the smaller roles. There is no question that writing a literary research paper can be fun, especially when it is based on one or more of Shakespeare’s plays or poems, and especially when the writer in question has a literary bent. That is the real key to writing a good paper, no matter what it is about: try to make it fun, try to make sure that you enjoy your topic. Your pleasure will show through in your writing every time.
