She is going to do her very best to tell you everything you need to know about writing a chemistry research paper, but you should forgive any lackluster attitude, as she also failed organic chemistry miserably back in high school. That is what literature lovers do: they fail out of chemistry. Bearing that in mind, however, chemistry is an intriguing subject for those with a scientific bent. A lot of people greatly prefer biology classes, since they generally involve cutting things open, but keep in mind that chemistry class can involve playing with acid and making things blow up, which is just about all you need to write an interesting paper.
From personal experience, the first thing you need to consider when writing a chemistry research paper is your professor. Did you get one of the good ones, or did you get the prerequisite professor whom everyone loathes, detests, and prays not to get? If so, then go talk to one of the well liked ones, it will help you out a lot. Barring that, ingratiate yourself to the smartest person in the class.
There are – probably – a lot of interesting research papers you can write which involve chemistry. After all, it is itself an interesting facet of science. You simply have to be really go at it because or have a vested interest because otherwise, even studying your bum off will not help very much.
For that reason, you have to be extremely careful when considering research paper ideas for a chemistry research paper. What are you studying in the class at the time? What have you studied up to that point? In chemistry courses, it is generally better to stick with what you know, unless you are extremely gifted in the course. Otherwise, you are apt to find yourself boggled down; you may find yourself doing tons of research, but unable to understand a bit of what you have found. For that reason, too, you may find it beneficial to turn in a research paper proposal before you even start on the paper in earnest. That way, your professor will be able to tell you if you are on the right track, if your subject is a feasible one, and if you have enough time to successfully complete it.
If you are taking a general chemistry course as a freshman or sophomore in college, then writing a chemistry research paper might be quite a bit easier. If you are taking an inorganic or organic chemistry course because you are majoring in straight chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or because you are pre-med, then make sure you get as much help as possible. Research paper writing is an involved process no matter what the subject. When you consider all the theorems, postulates, equations, formulas, et cetera, involved in higher level chemistry classes, you realize there is a lot of room to mess up, so do everything you can to make sure you do not go that route.
