Citing the reference materials in your research paper is important. This is usually done using either the MLA or APA formats of citation. But sometimes, we also need to write a research paper footnote. This is especially important if we are trying to compress the discussions in the page but would also like to reference terms and phrases within the document and point it to another more convenient direction. A research paper footnote does this.
What is a research paper footnote? A footnote is a group of text written at the very bottom of the page of a document. This is used to reference a part in the document or research paper. Usually, it is flagged by a number superscript which refers to the part in the main body of the document. So in this case, it does not really matter whether you are writing an APA style research paper or something in MLA format. What is more important is that you know how to cite the part in the document and put the equivalent details at the bottom of the page. Here is an example of a footnote:
1 This is for the first footnote cited on the page
Sometimes, authors will also enclose the superscript symbol inside brackets such as this one:
[1] This is for the first research paper footnote cited on the page
Or, you ca also use other markings like an asterisk or a danger sign. In any case, everything is just the same when it comes to interpreting what these symbols really mean and where they point to.
